Awbury Arboretum Rebrand Design
Awbury Arboretum is located in Germantown, PA. They are free and open to the public. I interviewed workers and volunteers there, researched its history, and learned about their mission and their values. I created a visual language reflecting what the client wanted the arboretum to represent if they were to actually rebrand. This system is meant to encompass the history of the arboretum, the wild gardens, and kid-friendly environment.
The logo was created from moveable type to represent the history, but I created multiple lockups to give it more of a modern, timeless feel, while keeping it fun and friendly. I kept the textures to incorporate more of a natural, less polished look. The colors come from my own photos of the site.
As you can see, there are multiple lockups that would be used in different deliverables. The stacked logo works better in some cases, while the one-line logo works better in others. In some cases, I broke up the logo to use as its own design element.
Below are some shots of my process with movable, woodblock type.
